Announcing updates to GWCF’s Board of Directors for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

LAKELAND, FL (July 5, 2023) – GiveWell Community Foundation (GWCF) announces the addition of four new board members and four outgoing board members, effective with the start of the new fiscal year on July 1, 2023. The four new members – James Previte, Garrett Roberts, Shannon Sapp, and Thomas Treviño – were unanimously approved at the final board meeting of GWCF’s 2022-2023 fiscal year on May 30, 2023.

“Our new board members are all dedicated community leaders who bring with them unique skills that will benefit our organization,” said Callie Neslund, GWCF’s President and CEO. “We are particularly thrilled to have representation on our board from all three of the counties we serve.”

Get to know each of the new board members below.

James Previte serves as the managing partner of Hamic Previte & Sturwold, PA. James has over 15 years’ experience concentrating in tax compliance and advisory services for closely-held companies and high net worth individuals. He is Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), and a current candidate for Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. James is a GWCF fundholder and a valued professional advisor referral source. He is engaged with a host of area non-profits.
James Previte
Garrett Roberts is General Counsel for the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office and an adjunct professor at South Florida State College. Garrett is an engaged member of the Highlands County division of United Way, the Highlands County Bar Association, President of the Sebring Chamber of Commerce, and the Finance Board at Grace Bible Church.  Garrett is married to his wife, Desiree, and has two children: son Tanner (4), and daughter Tinsley (2).

Shannon Sapp is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner® registered with Raymond James Financial Services.  A 4th generation native of Lake Placid, Florida, she graduated from Webber International University with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and has lived in Sebring, Florida, since 1999.  Shannon is the outgoing Board Chair of the Sebring Chamber of Commerce, currently serves on the advisory boards for Lakeview Christian School and Butterfly Arising – an Anti-Human Trafficking Organization, and previously served on the advisory board of Highlands County United Way for 15 years.

Thomas Treviño is a Hardee County native who has a diverse background including two terms on the Hardee County School Board, work with Wauchula State Bank, current ownership of six childcare centers in Hardee and southern Polk, and a current focus growing Kinbro Construction which specializes in powerline construction and access roads. When the local YMCA closed, Thomas partnered with Advent Health Foundation to establish the Hardee Youth Center non-profit which now occupies the space. He serves on the Board of the Hardee Education Foundation.

Outgoing Board Members

Four board members retired from the GWCF Board of Directors on June 30. Jeff Chamberlain served on the grants and investment committees during his three years as a board member. Bill Dorman served on the executive, governance, investment, and grants committees during his combined 11 years as a board member, including with the Community Foundation of Greater Winter Haven. Ginny Harris served on the audit committee during her three years as a board member. Linda Rich served on the grants committee during her nine years as a board member. Jeff, Bill, Ginny, and Linda were recognized for their outstanding service to GiveWell Community Foundation at the May 30 board meeting.
