Impact Polk 2017: YMCA of West Central Florida’s “Kindergarten Learn to Swim”

The YMCA of West Central Florida's "Kindergarten Learn to Swim" program is a two-week, interactive water safety and education program, incorporating personal water safety, awareness in and around water, and swimming skills. The program's goal is to teach every kindergartner how to stay safe in and around water and how to swim independently. The first week is completed in school and focuses on water safety -- identifying danger areas, learning the importance of adult supervision, and preparing students for the water experience. The second week, students are bused to the YMCA and the City of Lakeland's Gandy Pool during the school day, where each child receives five days of swimming lessons. The YMCA of West Central Florida's "Kindergarten Learn to Swim" was funded in part by an Impact Polk 2017 grant through the George W. Jenkins Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation.
