United Way of Central Florida has awarded GiveWell Community Foundation the 2019-2020 Spirit of Central Florida award.
LAKELAND, FL (JUNE 15, 2020) – GiveWell Community Foundation has been awarded United Way of Central Florida’s 2019-2020 Spirit of Central Florida award. The award was announced Monday, June 15 as United Way of Central Florida kicked off its “United Way Spirit Week” on Facebook Live.
“United Way of Central Florida is proud to recognize GiveWell Community Foundation with the highest workplace award that we have at United Way each year, which is the Spirit of Central Florida,” said Christina Criser Jackson, president and CEO of United Way of Central Florida. “We are so grateful to be partners during this COVID-19 pandemic, but also partners as friends and colleagues in making an impact throughout the community.”

Anticipating the medical and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic locally, GiveWell Community Foundation partnered with United Way of Central Florida in March to establish the United Community Relief Fund. The fund has surpassed $500,000 in donations, with more than $300,000 already distributed to nonprofit organizations providing medical and economic relief in Polk, Hardee, and Highlands counties.
