Happy Holidays imageHello GiveWell Friends and Family:

This crazy 2020 is almost over! We appreciate you sticking with us through an unusual and challenging year. Here’s hoping for less craziness in 2021!

As 2020 comes to a close, we are proud of our successes this year! We started the year business as usual. As we got to March, things got a little interesting, but we were still able to have a very successful Toast Event. Then the world changed and it has not been business as usual ever since. However, we have adapted and risen to the challenge. We learned to keep the mission of GiveWell moving forward with staff mostly working from home and conducting meetings by Zoom. Not only have we kept the mission going, we have set records in a number of areas. Here are few examples:

  • Beginning in April, we raised over $600,000 in a matter of weeks for COVID-19 relief. This money was granted out in two grant cycles to nonprofit agencies in our service area. Donations are still coming into the United Community Relief Fund which will allow us to have a third grant cycle in the near future.
  • Thanks to the generosity of our fundholders and friends, donations from January through November increased from $18,558,926 in 2019 to $33,644,126 in 2020.
  • Also, between January through November, grants almost doubled. During this time frame, grants in 2019 were $20,975,266 compared to $39,934,396 in 2020.

Thanks to the awesome GiveWell family, this has been made possible in a very trying year. So, on behalf of everyone at GiveWell, thank you for demonstrating amazing philanthropy in 2020! We look forward to working with you in 2021 to continue building philanthropy in Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties!

Everyone at GiveWell wishes you a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year!
