Impact Polk grant through the George W. Jenkins Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation
Florida Dance Theatre provided a free program for underprivileged and at risk students who may never have the opportunity to experience the art of dance. The “Chance to Dance” program, funded by an Impact Polk 2017 grant through the George W. Jenkins Fund within the GiveWell Community Foundation, consists of a summer dance camp and the chance for a season scholarship for training at the Academy of Florida Dance Theatre.
The program is designed to help students gain self confidence; develop communication and social skills; explore their own abilities; and understand the discipline, dedication, and physicality necessary while in a safe and secure environment. They discover a new and fun way to exercise and the importance of physical fitness. Students also learn to appreciate the art of dance and how the arts can play an important part in their daily lives as well as their future.
Thanks to LkldTV, you can see “Chance to Dance” in action and hear why the children in the program love to dance! To view the video, visit https://youtu.be/2AccTfEDJvg
