LAKELAND – In the early hours of Monday, September 11, Hurricane Irma made landfall and went directly through our region as category 2 hurricane. Polk, Hardee, Highlands, and many other Florida counties felt the force of violent winds and heavy rain, leaving most without power and many with severe property damage.

In anticipation of Hurricane Irma’s impact on our community, GiveWell Community Foundation launched the Hurricane Irma Relief Fund. Relying on short-term relief efforts by trusted resources such as the United Way of Central FloridaAmerican Red Cross, and Salvation Army, the goal of GiveWell Community Foundation’s Hurricane Irma Relief Fund is to provide for medium- and long-term hurricane relief.

The Hurricane Irma Relief Fund is ready to support nonprofit organizations serving in Polk, Hardee, and Highlands Counties, with 100% of contributions made to the Fund going toward the greatest needs throughout our recovering communities. Tax-deductible donations can be made to the Fund online at www.GiveCF.org/donate. GiveWell Community Foundation donor-advised fund holders can give by recommending a grant through our Fundholder Portal.
